If you want to get One Grip Higher today, consider the fact that you had at least 10 interviews today! Probably more.
My sophmore year of college I moved off campus to an apartment complex just down the road from my school. Jon moved in a couple days after I did and he never ceased to impress me. When most of the guys in the building were sporting sweatpants and t-shirts, Jon never failed to wear a nice, well ironed, collared shirt. It didn’t matter if we were playing video games, going shopping are heading to the library, Jon dressed to impress. We all thought he was nuts.
One day I asked Jon why he got all dressed up to go to the grocery store. Jon didn’t hesitate. He said, “Jason, I might meet my next boss at the store!”
Why risk loosing out on a great opportunity to connect with and impress a future boss, client, customer, student, parent, colleague, or prospective employer? Every time we interact with someone we are being interviewed. Sure it isn’t formal, but impressions are made every minute of every day. Our influence is an extension of all of these little impressions. Whether its a first impression, a last impression or a fleeting interaction with a stranger… you are being interviewed!
Practical Tip: Dress to impress. Men, the next time you get dressed put on a tie… Ladies, the next time you get dressed pick your best outfit. You will walk a little taller, project more confidence and feel a lot better.
If you want to get One Grip Higher, consider every interaction with every person you encounter today a micro-interview.
